China In 2008-2009, Students for Global Health will be focusing on our second project in Bejing, China. This project will target Chinese youth to further educate them in sexual health by providing Peer-Educated sexual education in local high schools by trained university students. There are approximately 200 million youth aged 15-24 in China, and over 2 million in Beijing alone. Since the Chinese middle-school curriculum mostly contains information about reproduction and secondary sex characterisitics, China’s youth are not receiving enough education about sexual behavior and practices. In addition, students are not being taught about safe sexual practices that promote prevention of pregnancy and the spread of STI’s and HIV/AIDS. Students for Global Health is currently working on building a sexual education awareness and resource center in Beijing, China and developing a Peer-Education program for high school-level sexual education. For more information about this program, please see SGH's Beijing Youth Sexual Education Program Website. |
